Harbour Chair

2012-01

Very Good and Proper

The Harbour Chair is designed for public and domestic spaces alike. We think it looks at home in a restaurant, a café or around a private dinner table. The chair shows subtle references of wooden Scandinavian furniture. Its design gently updates the familiar, while making it suitable for current production techniques. The Harbour Chair combines the tactile qualities of a solid wooden seat and back-hoop with the practicality and sturdiness of a tubular metal frame. The chair is elegant, yet generous in proportion. It is designed to give good comfort and allow for active sitting. Seat and back are cnc-carved from solid ash and then hand finished with great precision and skill Other timbers can be used subject to suitability The chair’s metal frame can be finished in a wide range of colours The possibility of different colour options for the steel component of the piece is a VG&P signature detail, available through all the products in the collection Made to order, available from October ’11

The 'Covent Garden' Club Chair

2011-09

Very Good and Proper

"You can find me in the club, bottle full of bub, so come give me a hug if you into to getting rubbed". Our Club Chair was actually commissioned by Canteen for its restaurant in residence in the heart of Covent Garden Market, hence the CG in its title. We designed it primarily for the contract sales market, as a fine dining chair, a comfortable side chair, for meeting rooms or for any tight space where you need a soft seat but don't necessarily have the space. You'll maybe even find the rapper, 50 Cent, 'chilling' on one in the back of the club, sipping bub. Who can say? All we know is that it's instantly comfy and stays that way for a long time. Here are some other facts. It's our first upholstered piece, tailored with precision by specialist UK automotive upholsterers who are used to meeting the highest standards of clients such as Jaguar, Bentley and Aston Martin. The generously-proportioned and fluid-form shell is cupped by a very sturdy tubular frame. Which we can finish for you in a wide range of colours (just as with our other products). Kvadrat’s Steel Cut and Steel Cut Trio fabrics also offer a great choice of colour. Alternative fabrics fabrics are available, subject to suitability. You can buy the CG Club Chair made to order, from October ’11

Canteen Table

2011-08

Very Good and Proper

Deliciously simple, timeless and strong. Featuring birch-ply four-top on cast aluminum legs, the Canteen table was inspired by the BA chair, by Ernest Race. Built at a time when traditional materials were being rationed, it helps explains why this table’s so simple and cost effective. Its durability and styling is a perfect match for the great British eatery, Canteen. Go for the same look and top it with lino. Or try something different, like oak or walnut. Ideal for restaurants, or for the home. You can also buy the legs on their own and fix to the table top of your choice.

Design preview evening at Covent Garden Canteen

2011-08

Very Good and Proper

Have you ever noticed good things seem to come in threes? Like a preview of Dezeen's new book of ideas, the London Design Guide 2012/13 and our new Club chair? Guests got a sneak peek of all three at Canteen Covent Garden on November 14th, 2011. Dezeen book of ideas features over 100 buildings, interiors and products, including a cunning non-lethal moustrap, and is edited by Marcus Fairs. Visit www.dezeen.com for more info. The London Design Guide is edited by Max Fraser and, as its title suggests, will help you find the capital's top design destinations. It also makes some useful local restaurant and hotel recommendations. At £12, it's the perfect gift for that designer in your life, perhaps. As for our Club chair...

Canteen Table Leg

2011-08

Very Good and Proper

So simple and flexible, you can use them to turn an old door (or whatever you fancy) into a table. And so strong, you won’t need any bracing support, either. Simply screw into your tabletop and away you go (actually you probably won't go anywhere for a while. You'll probably want to just admire your handiwork. And quite right too. So treat yourself to a nice sit down and a cup of tea). Material: Gravity-cast aluminium. Colours: Mouth-watering.

Canteen Utility Chair

2009-09

Very Good and Proper

Utility means useful and we’re delighted that so many people seem to find our Canteen Utility Chair just that. Inspired by the post-war school chair, it’s found in every branch of Canteen, in the BBC, in a school, in the Swedish MoMA, not to mention lots of residential properties. In many different colours (you can even choose your own) - and even, in the case of the BBC, upholstered. We’re delighted it’s found such a wide variety of homes, although, we have to say, not altogether surprised. Steel frame married to a beech plywood seat and back. Lighweight, stackable and suitable as both a dining chair and desk chair. And did we mention how useful it can be?
